This version of the canon IXUS line mimics the qualities of the Canon PowerShot SD450. The clearly seen difference is the pebble-smooth exterior and a 2.0-inch LCD display. But even with such similarities there are still some noted differences in its functionality and performance. It earned an excellent mark from reviews when it comes to responsiveness whether it is in powering up, zooming, or scanning the menus. It was also said to have the fastest focus ever seen from a Canon compact digital camera. Not to mention its very good performance in continuous shooting especially with the use of a fast SD card.
Canon PowerShot SD500 is noted to be the first in the IXUS line equipped with 7.1 Megapixels of resolution that enables the capture of detail in greater heights. Coupled with the DIGIC II processor, acquiring a clear crisp quality image is not impossible to achieve.
Also, in the Canon compact digital camera line, the Canon PowerShot SD500 is said to be the first to support the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed standard. This specifically means that users will experience the highest speed of data transfer every time they upload images to their computer from their Canon PowerShot SD500. With this level of camera performance, it can also take super-high-speed SD memory cards.
It is also worthy to mention its high performance movie mode which was not met by its forerunning IXUS models. It is excellent for capturing fast moving objects. And it also has a Fast Frame Rate movie recording function for general recording purposes and a compact mode for creating small files that can easily be sent through emails.
