It is the next beauty to the Canon PowerShot S2IS that delivered a faster paced performance compared to its elderly model, Canon PowerShot S1IS. Canon PowerShot S3 IS carries the same look while sporting a gunmetal gray color. Still powered by four standard size AA batteries and a flip and twist LCD monitor, you can barely see the difference. In its appearance, the addition of an ISO button is the most significant. Add to that is a 12x zoom lens, a bigger LCD display, a record histogram, a new sports mode, a wide screen shooting mode, and a higher maximum sensitivity. As said it is just a slight upgraded version from its predecessor.
The more improved feature of this version is its movie mode. Reviews said that it works well as a digital movie camera. It employs a separate start and stop button for easy grabbing of clips on whatever mode the user is shooting. Recorded movies are stored in AVI file (motion JPEG) with WAV sound file (stereo). More so, movie quality never disappoints consumers as it produces smooth and fast playback.
Users even have the option to zoom during filming just live a camcorder. The only noted hitch is the large AVI files, making it occupy a huge amount of space of the SD cards. In preventing this lag, it is advised to use higher capacity SD cards when one is intended to shoot numerous movies. The number of clips made depends much on the capacity of SD card used. The higher the capacity the many takes one gets.
