Successor of the Canon PowerShot S1IS, Canon PowerShot S2IS brings a refined and upgraded version of its predecessor’s specifications by improving its overall performance and output. Also, the Canon PowerShot S2IS was made heavier and larger than its predecessor. It sports a 12x optical zoom lens which is bigger and better compared to the former 10x optical zoom lens. It is also worthy to note that the 12x optical lens zoom range is 36-432mm equiv. and has a maximum aperture of F2.8-3.5 zoom lens. Its zooming mechanism is very quite because of its Ultrasonic motor (USM). Furthermore, accessories for attachments such as wide, telephoto, and macro bayonet fit adaptor lenses can be placed for added creative photography.
Even with greatly improved features, still the Canon PowerShot S2IS carries the “miniature SLR” design from its predecessor. It takes a silver appearance and carries a 1.8-inch tilt-and-swivel LCD monitor.
The Canon PowerShot S2IS takes four standard size AA batteries that are placed at the bottom of the hand grip. Adjacent to the battery compartment is a SD card slot hidden under a solid hinged door. In this version SD cards are used rather than the compact flash memory cards. With the many external controls visible around its surface, the Canon PowerShot S2IS takes a more sophisticated functionality as many expensive camera models.
Enhanced by the Canon DIGIC II processor with iSAPS, Canon PowerShot S2IS performs faster in all key areas that incur great lags from its predecessor. It greatly helps in adding speed to the camera mechanisms.
Overall, it’s a case of evolution rather than revolution.
