Canon PowerShot A540

There are two ways of looking at this six megapixels Canon PowerShot A540: as an underwater PowerShot or as A700 with a 4x zooms lens (35-140mm equivalent). The underwater white balance and Scene mode feature have become welcoming aids below the surface. Canon A540 boosts a resolution of six megapixels and increases the frame rate of the movie to a maximum of 30 frames per second at a resolution of 640x480.

Canon A540 delivers its amazing performance in some other areas including a huge 2.5” sporting rear LCD panel in addition to its real time real-image optical viewfinder. As a welcome feature for more sophisticated camera users, an added option of shutter-priority and aperture-priority exposure modes are included. Other exposure modes available are fully automatic and fully manual, plus a wide selection of scene modes and a "My Colors" menu that lets you apply special effects to the image such as Neutral, Vivid, Dark or Light skin or your own customized color adjustment.

Canon divides the mode dial into three sections or "zones" of the Powershot A540. The Green Auto setting is for those instances where you just want modify the setting and forget it. Canon A540 calls its Scene mode section the "Image Zone" and the third zone is the "Creative," which comprises Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Programmed Auto, and full Manual control. The impressive Creative Zone will likely compensate the cost of this digital camera. It also uses the NiMH AA rechargeable batteries which are now available with as much as 2700 mAh.
